Finnish Election Winner Asks All Rivals to Join Government Talks.

Finland’s election winner, the pro-business National Coalition party, plans to ask all parties elected into parliament to join the first phase of talks on forming a new government for the northernmost euro country.
Petteri Orpo, who is set to replace Sanna Marin as prime minister, is likely to start the negotiations April 14 after the parliament convenes following Sunday’s general election, he told reporters in Helsinki on Tuesday.
“We will start the talks with all other parties” and based on those discussions, invite certain parties “to continue into the actual negotiations on forming a government and to find a coalition that is genuinely ready for change,” Orpo said.
“The future government’s policy program will be based on fostering sustainable economic growth” and strengthening public finances, Orpo said. “We want to make this a country that leaves no one behind. An indebted country cannot promise that.”
Asked whether it’s possible to forge a coalition by the June 23 midsummer holiday, Orpo said he hopes so, but that “the priority is to create a functioning cabinet with a good policy program rather than rush into it.”
